Purpose:
Patching is done to repair cracks, holes, or surface damage in concrete and masonry to restore strength, prevent water intrusion, and improve appearance.
Tools Needed:
Common tools include a trowel or putty knife, wire brush, hammer and chisel, a concrete or masonry patch mix, a mixing bucket, and safety gear such as gloves and goggles.
Process:
Begin by cleaning the damaged area, removing loose debris and deteriorated material with a chisel and wire brush. Slightly dampen the surface to help the patch adhere better. Mix the patching material according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Apply the mixture using a trowel, pressing it firmly into the damaged section. Smooth and shape the surface to match the surrounding area. Allow the patch to cure properly to ensure a lasting repair.
