Repurposed Materials

Repurposed Concrete, also known as Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA), has several applications. Its durability, availability, and environmental benefits make it a good alternative to new materials.

Common uses: Road Base and Subbase. Crushed Concrete in sizes ranging from 1.5 inches down to fine particles is used beneath Roads, Highways, and Driveways. It provides compacts easily and offers load-bearing support.

Larger chunks, typically 2 to 6 inches, are used as fill material for embankments and retaining walls. These applications benefit from the volume and stability that it provides, especially in large-scale earthworks.

Recycled Concrete is also used in new Concrete Mixes, replacing Fine and Coarse Aggregates up to 1 Inch in Size. Generally limited to Non-Structural applications such as Sidewalks and Curbs it reduces the demand for aggregates.

For Erosion Control, particularly along Shorelines, Rivers, and Drainage Channels, large pieces of concrete ranging from 6 to 18 inches or more serve as Riprap. 

In landscaping , Broken Concrete is used creatively for Retaining Walls, and Pavers. 

Crushed Concrete of smaller sizes, often 3/4 inch or less, is also used as Bedding for Pipe Laying and Trenches, It's Stable, Drains Well and Compacts easily.  

On a related note, Recycled Rebar also reduces the need for mining raw iron ore and supports a Circular Materials Economy.
